Royal Oaks RCOA Memorial Tree and Bench Donation Program

In recent months, the Landscaping Committee had several residents ask whether it was possible to plant a tree within Royal Oaks honoring a loved one. Memorials are at the heart of recognizing family members and friends whom we have loved and admired. We felt this was a wonderful suggestion and the Landscape Committee worked diligently with Silversand Services to research tree and bench offerings, placement and pricing.

We are happy to announce that thanks to the Landscape Committee’s hard work Royal Oaks RCOA will launch a memorial program allowing current and former residents of Royal Oaks RCOA to make a living memorial of a beautiful tree, or alternatively a park bench for a loved one at a carefully chosen location.

Tree offerings are 45 Gallon Shumard Oak or 45 Gallon Crape Myrtle each priced at $1100.00. The cost includes the tree of choice, disease/fertilizer treatment, 1 year warranty if the tree needs to be replaced, tree bubbler as needed, staking and a commemorative plaque placed adjacent to the tree naming the honoree and donor.

If a tree isn’t your preference, you can donate a park bench. The benches are made of a durable recycled plastic and will have a commemorative plaque on them as well for a cost of $1000.00. Several locations have been identified as wonderful settings for park benches, providing a nice place to sit and visit, while adding to the beauty of Royal Oaks.

We would also like to give special thanks to resident and Landscape Committee member, Karen Shewbart and Mel Reist, Silversand Services for putting this together. The program will be administered by our HOA Management team and maintenance of the trees will be provided by Silversand Services. If you are interested in making a memorial donation please contact Freda Raymond or Megan Blocker for more information.

Update on Perimeter Wall Repair

Dear Royal Oaks Residents,

As you are aware, The Board of Directors (The Board) accepted Mr. Massoud Tabrizi, P.E. and Mr. David Keel, P.E. (both residents of Royal Oaks) as volunteers, to help The Board in selecting a qualified contractor to complete the repair works on the perimeter wall.  Both Mr. Tabrizi and Mr. Keel have been practicing engineering for 30 years.  Due to their prior engagements, they were unable to attend the question/answer session of the board meeting on April 7th, 2015.  This update has been prepared to inform the residents of the Royal Oaks Community of the project status.

To date the following actions has been completed:

  1. The specifications prepared by      Barnhart Constructors, Inc. (Barnhart) have been reviewed.
  2. A list of 8 local qualified and      reputable contractors were identified.
  3. A Request for Proposal (RFP)      has been prepared.
  4. The RFP has been forwarded to      all qualified contractors.
  5. The RFP also requested a      separate bid for annual inspection and maintenance program.

Upon review of the specifications by Mr. Tabrizi and Mr. Keel and their discussions with contractors, they were of opinion that some of the work recommended and the methodology proposed by Barnhart was not necessary and was too cumbersome.

Currently we are in the process of conducting emergency repairs.  Fencecrete America has been selected to complete these repairs.  The repairs include the replacement of wall sections that are visibly damaged and are beyond repair.  The repair work is estimated around $3,000.00 to $5,000.00.  This portion of the project should be completed within the next few weeks.

Currently Mr. Tabrizi, Mr. Keel and Ms. Alfreda Raymond are conducting individual meetings with each contractor to narrow down the scope and methodology of the project.  Once this is complete, the contractor with best approach and price will be awarded the contract to complete the remainder of the non emergency work.  Currently three contractors have been interviewed and others have been scheduled for the upcoming weeks. The Association will re-establish a regular maintenance program once the repair work has been completed.

BOARD COMMUNICATION

Dear Residents,

The RORCOA Board of Directors would like to thank the community for your
support of the recent Annual Meeting and the election of Directors.  This
is an excellent example of democracy in action.  There has been a change
in the board and we hope that, with the change, we can count on the support of
all homeowners.  Communication is one of the main objectives of your Board
of Directors and we hope you will appreciate the efforts we will be making on
your behalf.

Please feel free to contact the RORCOA staff or one of the Directors with any
suggestions or concerns you may have.  Several of the new Board members
have already been contacted and we look forward to further discussions about
the issues that affect our community.

Let’s all get back together and work to continue the efforts of past Boards to
keep this the best community in Houston and one we can continue to be proud to
be residents of.
